About Us

The Myanmar Association of Hawai‘i (MAOH) welcomes you. We want to reach as many people as possible. Any one with an interest in Myanmar is welcome! We are a non-political, non-religious, charitable organization of all races.

Our Story

Formed by families with roots in Myanmar, the Myanmar Association of Hawaii (MAOH) has been a vibrant part of the community since the early 1970s. Each April, they come together to celebrate the Myanmar New Year with enthusiasm and joy. What started as a small gathering has flourished into a full-fledged 501(c)(3) organization by 2003, dedicated to aiding residents from Myanmar in need.

MAOH’s commitment to helping others has had a far-reaching impact, both in Hawai'i and Myanmar. When Cyclone Nargis devastated Myanmar in 2008, MAOH sprang into action, raising substantial funds to support the victims. Their efforts didn’t stop there. For nearly a decade, they have partnered with the Aloha Medical Mission, offering essential services to low-income communities in Myanmar.

In addition to their humanitarian work, MAOH is passionate about preserving Myanmar’s rich cultural heritage. They champion projects that celebrate traditional dances of various ethnic groups and keep the art of Than Kyat alive. Furthermore, MAOH extends its support to other ethnic organizations, helping them raise funds for their own cultural and community activities. Through their dedicated efforts, MAOH continues to be a beacon of support and cultural preservation for the Myanmar community and beyond.

March 28th Earthquake

In light of the devastating earthquakes in Myanmar, the Myanmar Association of Hawai‘i (MAOH) took immediate and urgent action in response to the crisis.

First, our thoughts and prayers remain with the victims, survivors, their families, and all those affected by this tragedy. Standing in solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Myanmar and Thailand, MAOH brought our Hawai‘i community together in compassion and action to support relief efforts.

We are grateful to share that, following our successful fundraising event on April 19, 2025, the funds raised have been distributed to impacted communities in Sagaing,Mandalay and Inle to support urgent humanitarian needs, including emergency supplies and essential assistance for earthquake-affected families.

As MAOH is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (EIN #: 41-2200710), all donations were tax-deductible. We extend our deepest appreciation to everyone who contributed, volunteered, and supported this effort.
